Meeting my family

Neko on Behavior - Wed, June 06 2007

My mom needs some advice on how to introduce me to the rest of the family.I have already met Damian and Monty. Since I am still small, they think that I am food but they can't get me. I still need to be intriduced to Luna and Butch, who are my new canine companions. My mom is afraid the Luna will want to play with me because she still acts like a puppy. She isn't so worried with Butch, I just need to slap his nose a few times. Does anyone have any suggestions so that she can let me out of my room?

Tell your mom to have your canine buddies on leashes (with her staying close by) and then let you approach them on your terms. That way if either gets too excited, they can't do a lot because they'll be restrained and you can sniff them as much as you want. That's how I prefer to meet dogs anyway...

Charlie has a very good suggestion. Have you been sniffing each other under the door to get used introduced?

Thanks for the advice guys. My mom and dad introduced me to my canine siblings yesterday for the first time. Luna was scared of me but Butch kept trying to bite me. My parents tried them one at a time in a crate and held my butt to them to sniff then turned me around. Then they took them out of the crate and held onto their collars. I think next time they are going to put the crate with one dog in my room so that I can roam around and they can get used to me.
