Case of the "Sickies"

Rhonda on Health - Thu, March 20 2008

Gosh I am glad I have a boss who is an animal lover and a job where I can work from home when needed. We apparently have a case of the "sickies" at our house. When I got home from work yesterday, I smelled a horrible smell as soon as I opened the door. Well while we were at work, Bogart, Raven and Colton had ALL gotten sick in their crates. Bo has BAD diarrhea and it was all over him and his bedding.(GROSS) If that wasn't bad enough, both Colton and Raven had vommited in their cages. I promptly put everyone outside and started the clean-up of the crates and the crate room. WOW was the smell awful! I had to open a window and light a candle. I ended up throwing away Bo's bedding, it was too soiled to clean. That was just the beginning of the "sickies". Colton and Raven threw up a couple of more times last night and Bo STILL has diarrhea. Has anyone else ever tried to give a 100# Great Pyrenees a bath at home before? Let me tell you, its NOT easy! Anyway not wanting to come home to another mess, I called my boss this morning and asked if I could work from home today. I told him about the whole ordeal of the night before and he agreed that I needed to stay home with my sick kids. He actually called them my kids! Although I think of them that way, I am forever grateful that my boss sees it that way too. He has 3 dogs of his own and totally understood my desire to stay at home with the kids today. Thankfully Colton seems to have gotten over his "sickies" but Raven still isn't acting her normal self. I have given Bo a couple of Peptos and he seems to be getting a little better. I'm a little worried because I am leaving tonight to go to my nephews first baseball tournement and won't be back until Saturday morning. Although the furkids LOVE my husband, he just doesn't clean up messes the way I like them to be cleaned up. Hopefully another round of Pepto will completely cure Bo! Ahhhhh, the life of a furkid mom....

I hope everybody feels better soon! No dog messes are fun to clean up, but especially if they are supersized! Kudos to your boss for realizing where your priorities needed to be today.

Wow, what we do for our kids!!! I too have a boss who is an animal lover and very understanding. Don't envy you cleaning up the mess, but we've all been there and we do what we have to for our babies. Hang in there girl.

Wow, you do have an understanding boss. When Harry had to have Thyroid cancer surgery I wasn't able to get PTO so I ended up getting a point for calling in that day. I think they probably would fire me if I called in and said my dogs were sick. Hope they feel better soon.

That is TERRIBLE. And they wonder why morale is low!

You poor thing! I can not imagine cleaning that mess! I hope your babies are feeling better. My boss is cool like that too. She let me work from home several days when I was having plumbing and the drainage system put in my house.

We had 4 of them in our house this past week with the same thing. There must be a bug going around. Luckily not all of us got it. Mom said she's tired of cleaning up the messes and wiping back ends.

Wow! That is horrible! How could they expect you NOT to be there? I am truly grateful for the job and boss that I have...

That is horrible! Where do you work? Sounds like they need to seriously address their HR policies.

How's everyone doing today, Rhonda? I'm so sorry everyone got sick at the same time, and no, I haven't ever tried to give a Great Pyr a bath. It's hard enough to give one to my small Deuce!
