Mom just got back from Day Two of the Hoosier Horse Fair. Today, she shopped. Yesterday she just listened to training stuff. But, today, she bought stuff that she now wants to try out on me. This means I have to leave my friends and the nice lounge we have by the hay bale.
She got a special stirrup that extends 4 inches below the regular stirrup. While Mom swears she was a great horsewoman when she was a teenager, she is now much less limber and much, much heavier than she was and it just isn't that easy for her to get up onto the saddle. So, this stirrup goes down and then once she is in the saddle, it pops back up and looks just like a regular stirrup. Great, now she can get on and off without the mounting block, which means more time in the saddle on trails. I guess the good news is that when we stop to rest on really long rides she will be more likely to get off and let me rest as she will be able to get back on without looking for a log.
She also got a special thing to put on my cinch so that it is easier for her to get tight so the saddle doesn't slip. Sigh.
And to top this off, she bought new cowboy boots. I think I'm in for a ride tomorrow for sure. I'm really bummed that she bought a membership to the Indiana Trail Rider's Association. She got a book that lists all the places in Indiana we can go and ride. She doesn't even own a horse trailer. What is she thinking? She says she has friends who have trailers.
But, at least she found me two new kinds of treats and she got me some tasty supplements to help my hooves grow nice and strong.
I hope she doesn't got to any more of these things.
