Batman and I had quite the day on Saturday. We started at 8 a.m. in Broad Ripple Park at the ARPO Olympics, then headed to Beach Grove and Pawsitive Partners for their demo day, after that it was off to Avon for the second of the Puppy Mill protests.
I slept well last night, that's for sure.
Sadly, there are no Olympic medals on our mantel this morning. But, the Bat gave it his all. He may never speak to me again though as I entered us in the Tshirt race. You had to take a Tshirt, run to a line, put your dog in the T shirt and run back. I think we might have been last. Batman is not a clothes kind of dog!
We did great in the obstacle course. Our best time was 27 seconds. But, there were some kick butt dogs there and when I left the lowest run was 18 seconds.
I also entered Batman in the Find the Bone contest. They show the dog a treat then hide it in some hay. I thought Batman would really ace this one as we play "Find it" all the time as part of his training. But, I did not count on the smells of the other dogs who had been in the hay already as being so much more fun to sniff than the bone. Batman got distracted by sniffing everything but the bone. I think we came in at 34 seconds for that. sheesh.
I did not enter the pie eating contest, but I have to tell you I have never laughed so hard in my life. They give the person a small pie with whipped cream and the dog gets an dog cupcake. The human cannot use his/her hands to eat the pie, the dog can do whatever it wants. Oh my, that was SO funny. I'll be posting photos later on my blog. An English Bull dog won the small dog segment and a lab won for the second year in a row in the large dogs.
The dog barking contest was also great for a laugh. It was how many barks a dog could make in one minute. Many dogs got stage fright and just sat there mute looking at their owners. But, one Chihuahua barked 101 times in a minute. I left before that contest was over, but I can't imagine anyone beating that!
At Pawsitive Partners Batman tried Rally and Agility. He has already done some work on agility equipment, so I know he can do that. I wasn't sure I could do Rally as you have to read signs and do what they say and I am NOT good at multitasking on the fly. I was the kid who could not march and play music at the same time in marching band.
Without any pressure it was easy. In a competition, I'm sure I would be a mess.
I visited with Amy, aka Mama Muttblood, at her PetLane booth. There were several dog rescues set up, including Great Danes! Big old sad eyes.
At the puppy mill protest in Avon, someone got their wires crossed and the protest permit was for 1:30 to 3 instead of 2:30 to 4. So, I got there at 2:35 and only stood there for less than half an hour. But, at least we made an appearance.
