FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HUMANE SOCETY OF INDIANAPOLIS
ANNOUNCES CHANGES IN MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE
Boden Has Stepped Down as CEO; HSI Will Seek Executive Director
INDIANAPOLIS…David Horth, chair of the Humane Society of Indianapolis (HSI)
board of directors, announced today that CEO Martha Boden has stepped down as head
of the local organization. “As we shared last spring when we implemented our new pet
acceptance model, Reservation Required, we were beginning a process of reorganizing
HSI to meet changing trends in animal welfare and the challenges of the current national
economic situation. Our internal organizational plan called for us to establish a smaller,
leaner organization and then to determine whether our management structure was still the
right one for the smaller organization. It became obvious to the HSI board, and to Martha,
that it no longer made sense for any individual to lead the organization at the CEO level.
Instead, we have realigned the administrative and operations staff and are actively
recruiting an executive director.”
Boden, who has been with HSI since October, 2002, said, “What is most important is that
the Humane Society adapt its management structure to be lean and flexible enough to
provide the best possible outcome for each and every animal now and into the future. The
choices are never easy, but our mission of caring for and finding lifetime homes for
animals has to be paramount. Judging by that standard, I believe the board is taking the
right approach.” Boden added, “My time here has been so rewarding and Indianapolis is a
wonderful place.”
“Throughout its 100+ year history, the Humane Society of Indianapolis has always put
the needs of animals first,” said Horth. “To do this over so many decades has required the
willingness and ability to change over time. We believe this management structure
change is the right one at this time and will help us to continue to serve our community,
now and in the future.”
“We are grateful to Martha for making such a positive difference at HSI during her
tenure,” continued Horth. “Under her leadership, HSI has significantly expanded the
services provided to each animal in its care, including the spay or neuter of every adopted
pet, a comprehensive pet behavior assessment program and innovative disease
management protocols. We thank her for her contributions and for her genuine concern
for the animals in our care.”
Since 1905, the Humane Society of Indianapolis has been providing shelter and comfort
to thousands of animals in need on the path to loving, lifetime homes. For more

Well, it seems like now would be a perfect time for all the knowledgeable animal welfare people to come together and begin putting the NO Kill Equation into place. I hope that HSI chooses their director wisely.

AMEN! If they choose the right person, everything could come together and fall into place. I emailed Warren and told him he was perfect for it!
