Lexie's first Monon walk

Connie on Activities - Fri, June 20 2008

I took Lexie on her first walk along the Monon today. She did so great. I've walked her around the neighborhood a few times and she seemed fine, but I wasn' sure how she would do in a much more crowded environment.

She did not lunge at anyone, she wanted to lick a few people and her dog passing skills were awesome. she did not try to lunge at any other dogs, even if they lunged toward her. She did do a soft whine at the dogs, but that was it and if I tugged on her collar she came right away from them.

She did not like the roller bladers. And when we went by Bub's Burgers she tucked her tail. But, there was a huge crowd in the outdoor seating area, plus all the traffic on Main Street in Carmel ,etc. On the way back by Bub's she did fine.

I found out she is scared of water fountains. I did not take my handy dandy dog water bowl and water bottle pouch. I figured I could just get her water at the dog watering stations along the Monon. She would not go near them. I spent 20 minutes and most of my hot dogs trying to get her up to it. Finally she would come up, but when I turned the water on she ran.

I had to empty the treat bag and fill it with water for her.

It still makes me sad that people seem to think she is mean. When I walk Batman along the Monon all kinds of people stop and talk to me or ask to pet him. No one spoke to us on this walk. I may have to put a garland of flowers around her neck.

But, I was very happy with her outing. I think she is ready for PetsMart next. She is definitely going to make someone (who doesn't have cats) a great dog.

What a great doggie! I can't imagine just looking at a dog and calling him/her "mean". That's so wrong! I knew a chihuahua (sp?) that was totally cute but would rip your fingers off of you tried to pet her! I don't assume anything...

I need to teach her a cute trick. A friend of mine taught her doberman to sit on its haunches and wave a paw. As she said, "how can you be scared of a dog waving at you.?"

I just bought a great new trick book. Bring her to the Carmel Dog Day thing tomorrow and see how she does. Since you don't live far, you can take her back home if it doesn't go well. I will probably have some extra room in my tent thingy since it is really big. She can hang out with me for awhile. Buy her a lei of flowers. I think you can get them at Hot Damn, It's a Dollar.

Aw, Connie, if you keeping singing her praises, you're going to tempt me. I must keep telling myself there's no more room...
