Humane Society of Hamilton County

Stacy on Activities - Sat, June 21 2008

I finally went to visit the Humane Society of Hamilton County today. I've been wanting to check it out, but just hadn't made it up there. It is an awesome place!! I was so impressed. Maybe I went right after they cleaned or something, but the place was spotless!! I usually expect to see some poop or something when you go into the kennel area, but there was none. A good number of the dogs even had toys. Some of their cat cages are pretty cool too. They have small, circular doors in the cage wall that can be opened to combine cages. They were full though, so they don't have room for that now. Even the litter boxes were clean! If I were put in charge at HSI, I would definitely be contacting the person in charge of Hamilton County for some tips!

I fell in love with a pit bull/mastiff mix in the lobby named Baby Girl. OMG!! I had to get out of there before I took her home. There is also a full-blooded chow up there named Bear! I thought about bringing that one home too. Minnie would kill me!

They are who we fostered through and I can't say enough good about them, either. It IS always clean. Never smelly at all. Before they got to their new facility, I couldn't say it was always clean...there was just no space for the cats, especially. Theyused to have a trailer out back where the pregnant/nursing cats were and THAT was nasty!! When we fostered Pearle, her mom and brothers, I kept saying to myself "please not those stinky white kitties", I mean their cage was trashed with poop! Those are who we got! They smelled SO bad. But they all cleaned up well and grew to be healty kittens. All were adopted, mom, too! My little Pearlie stayed with us♥

I'm thinking about talking to them about fostering. Since they have a shelter, they may have someone willing to bring a dog out and see how my girls do. If it doesn't work, they can just take them back to the shelter. I've been taking Minnie out and working with her, but I'm still not sure how she would be. I just need to try it, but I'm not making a committment to a foster dog without knowing it is going to work.

Yeah! We love that place! Mama has been a few times and it is always clean and the people that work there are very helpful. My boyfriend, Benson, came from Hamilton Co HS! Mama looks at their site a lot, too. They give great descriptions of the animals available for adoption.
