I played on agility equipment

Lexie -- foster dog on Activities - Tue, July 08 2008

FM says I might make an awesome agility dog. I was not afraid of any of the equipment. I climbed over the A frame, did the dog walk and jumped through a tire. My favorite part is going to a big box on legs and jumping on it and then when FM yells "Down" I do and she gives me LOTS of hot dogs.

She got all kinds of excited when I went over the A frame. At first I didn't think I could do it, but FM said there were hot dogs on the other side, so I gave it a try. Then I wanted to do it AGAIN.

FM says I have to work on my courage. Lots of things make me nervous. So, she thinks playing on the agility equipment might help me be braver. It sure is fun to learn things I didn't know before especially if I can score some hot dogs.

FM makes me do all kinds of funny things for those treats. Sometimes she makes me jump on a rock or on top of a picnic table. She says I have to learn that new things don't necessarily mean scary things. She also says I can't be petted unless I am SITTING. I'm not sure that's fair, but I do like to be petted, so I'm giving it a try.

Awesome job Lexie. I have that same sitting rule. I HATE that, but I do it.

It is so much more fun to be petted if you have your forepaws on the person and your tongue licking their face. That's how I want to be petted. sigh.

It definitly helped increase my confidence, Lexie. I was much more of a mess before I did agility.

Something about the fact I weigh more than 60 pounds and love to leap at a person's chest while running 700 mph means I need to sit to be petted. I'm not sure what's bad about what I do. I just love to say hello that's all.

Mom says I have a similar problem. She says I have black dog syndrome (black dogs are perceived as mean), and my chosen method of greating is barking and jumping. I lick in between barks. Not condusive to actually getting anyone to pet me. I don't know why, but that's the way it is.
