Just my opinion - Insane and misguided. To me, it is disrespectful of any individual being to think we can simply recreate it. Her original dog had a spirit that can not be cloned. I believe we should appreciate those we love and honor their memory after they pass. In my opinion, to try to recreate them like they're a piece of furniture does not honor their memory.
There's the subject of mental health, denial of grief, pet over population, the genetic Pandora's box this opens, etc. And it's not like if she were independently wealthy that would make this ok. I'm not entirely against cloning. I think at this point in cloning too many people are only concerned with the "can we do this" aspect of it instead of the "shloud we do this". There are thousands of medical conditions that could be cured with cloning and stem-cell technology. But there will always be someone who wants to pervert a good thing. This article is making my brain boil, for lack of better words.
I believe that every living thing has a Spirit, and you just can't duplicate that. I've gone through the grieving process over family and pets who have crossed over, and if I had the opportunity to "clone" any of them, I wouldn't. Their Being has moved on, so the only thing I'd be "creating" would be the shell.
Wow MM, you just gave me COLD chills.....
That woman is psycho, and the scientists who took her money are not ethical in the least. This bothers me at every level. Those puppies won't have the same personality and spirit as the original. How could it be, when there are 5 pups? Does she think his soul split into 5? They may be inclined to some of the same personality traits, but there's no guarantee. She'd have better honored her dog by going to the shelter and adopting 5 pit bulls, if she has the means to care for that many.
