OT: Composting questions

Lynn on Activities - Wed, August 13 2008

I know that many of us here are gardeners and have a few questions about composting. I've done a good bit of reading and think I understand the basic differences between composting and vermiposting. Can anyone recommend a place here in town I can go to research composting products more? I saw a "I want that" kinda show months ago showing a three stage vermipost bin and I thought it provided construction plans free on their website. Of course, now I can't find anything about it online. Any help would be great, Thanks Lynn

Do we plan on composting doogy poo? The dog cookie guy just hoses our poo in the yard with a garden hose till it disolves. Makes for a pretty green lawn! For kitty litter he just tills it in to the garden in area's where flowers grow or non-root crops grow like sweet corn or some thing like that with the produce off the ground. Don't think worms would live well in poo compost if there was too much poo in i.

Isn't there something like "marion county soil conservation" associated with the Parks Dept?

I want to get the hang of standard composting before moving on to composting poo. I know having a truly "Green" house is mucho $$$$, which I don't have. So I've been researching recycling, composting, rain barrels, compact flouresent light bulbs, 0 emissions paint, composite lumbar for Titus's fence, bamboo flooring, etc. I'm still not ready to buy a house yet but can window shop all these things so I can hit the ground running once I do. I'll definitely have to check out the Marion county soil conservation assoc. Thanks for the suggestions guys :)
