ESCAPE!

Riley (O'Wiley) on Fitness - Tue, September 09 2008

Mom could tell that I was door-lurking. She even said RILEY, BACK....but it was too late. I was a tan streak with my toenails barely clicking on the sidewalk. It was Heaven! I was so fast that I scared some kids when I dashed through their yard.

The art-form of escape is based on timing. I could tell mom was in a hurry and holding too many things at one time, so she couldn't grab me. (Not that grabbing me has EVER worked as I streak by....hahaha.)She hollered COME BACKYOU DOGGONE DOG or something like that, but I acted like I didn't hear her. She could see my joy and didn't even try to chase me. (Doggone it, she's supposed to keep up her end of the game.) She just talked to the neighbor and drove away.

By the time she came home, I was tuckered out enough to let her catch me. Heck, she had some good smells in her hand in a white box. Of course I came! Doggone it. Recapture is an art-form, also based on timing......

Man Riley...I escaped once and got scared and didn't go out of the driveway. You sure are one brave girl, but don't you know we are suppossed to STAY in our own yards? Our moms get upset if we escape.....

I started out free on the street. Sometimes I just need to stretch out. Mom prefers that it happen at some land she's got down south where there's no traffic. She does get upset when I take off because of the safety factor, but she also knows that chasing me just makes me stay out longer. One time she followed me into a yard and the guy came out of his house with a gun behind his back. She said SORRY, SIR, JUST GETTING MY DOG. She said she wasn't risking her life to save mine anymore, but I know she would if it came down to it. She loves me that much!

Momma gets really upset when I escape. I used to be really good at it but I think she's learned all my tricks. I need some new ones. It makes me sad when Momma cries but I just have to get out and smell the smells sometimes....you know what I mean?

It's all about timing. Escape is easy if you just wait for your mom to be in a hurry and carrying stuff, like talking on the cell phone and carrying hot coffee and car keys. If she has a baby and diaper bag, that's good, too. If she's late for work already, she will probably be too mad to chase you. I know mom's tricks. I don't fall for the "come and get the hot dog" and I don't hop in the car for a "car ride" that only goes back home.....doggone it but she's sneaky!!! Her best trick is to sit on the front steps and wait for me to run past. Sometimes I screw up and stop to talk. You guessed it, recaptured!
