ALERT!! On Bark Collars!!

Brittany on Training - Sat, September 13 2008

Does anyone know of bark collars burning dogs? Rosey had a bark collar and we recently took it off today and realized she had 2 burn marks on her fur where the collar was.

the brand is Innotek. I plan on calling them and filing a complaint and demanding my money back. Granted it did work - but not at the price of burning my poor pooch.

What does everyone else think?

Has she worn it for long periods?
I use the same brand and no problem here but Sammi only wears it during the day. never on at nite cause she sleeps through til 7 and I am up by then. Is the coating missing on the prongs? if so that may be your problem.

I am a groomer at a vet hospital. I see wounds on dogs necks from electric fence and bark collars way too often. I know that some dogs have reactions to the metal on the prongs. The only thing I can say is if you have to use that type of collar not to leave it on your dog all the time and check your dogs neck every day.

Never leave the bark collar on for long periods. Or any collar for that matter. Any collar that is too tight can cause problems. Bark collars have to be tight to function, so you have to make sure they don't stay on longer than normal. Ours come off the minute we get home.

I have an Innotek bark collar for Titus and have never had any problems. It says in the directions to never leave the bark collar on the animal for longer than 10hrs a day and to constantly check to make sure that the collar isn't too tight.
