I Could Have Barked All Night

Beau:Hush? Come? I couldn't go inside!
My heart's too fast to try to slow it down!

Hush? Tush!
I just can't hush tonight.
Not for all the treats in the town!

I could have barked all night!

I could have filled my lungs
And then the welkin rung
As I had done before.

What made me so excited;
Why all at once my heart took flight.

I only know when that
Turned out to be a cat
I could have barked,

Biped 1 It's after three now.
Biped 2: Don't you agree now,
He ought to be in bed.

Beau:
I could have howled all night!
And gave the neighbors fright!
And still have yelled 'til morn.

I could have made more yells,
Two hundred decibels,
Like Heimdall's frightful horn.

Now who can say
What made me bray so loudly?
Why all at once I raised my voice.

You'll never know why I
Declined to make a sigh.
I could have barked, barked barked all night!

Biped2: I understand, Beau.
But just let it go.
The neighbors lights have all come on.

Beau:I want to yell all night,
And howl with all my might.
Then try to bark some more.

I want to fill the air.
The deaf will stop and stare.
They're shaken to the core.

No one will care
What made me dare
To do it.
Why all at once their ears did bleed.

But now I see that they
Are armed and shout "Oi veh!"
Think I'll go in and sleep ...
