[With apologies to Neil Diamond and The Monkees]
Oh she can run like a mare
As she chases down a hare.
Look at how the sun plays on her coat.
Then she stops and she returns.
For her everyone yearns.
But she is mine and I have to gloat.
Tell me, have you seen
Lines so pure and clean
On a daydream retriever
Who's a shelter dog queen?
I saw her one day
In a shelter's chain link quay.
It tugged my heart how sad she looked at me.
So we went and played in their yard.
As we laughed and barked so hard.
I took her home and now we're filled with glee.
She is my best friend.
All day I'd like to spend
With my daydream retriever,
Till she cold-nosed my end.
How she made me jump!
And my head did bump,
'cause my daydream retriever
Scared me like some stupid chump
She sleeps on the couch.
Then I hear a grouch
From my daydream retriever
Who thinks it's her private pouch.
Now where did she flee?
Then what do I see?
It's my daydream retriever
On a counter-surf spree!
