interesting shelter facts

Stephanie on Activities - Mon, February 08 2010

I just found out that Indiana has 92 counties. I spent some time checking to see how many county shelters were on petfinder. I came across about 30 ( I ran out of typing skills at that point). Some counties share shelters. Some counties share with a humane society or other rescue or rescues. Some counties only have Humane societies or rescues.

Check out your county shelter, in whatever state you live in and see how it does in regards to petfinder searches and volunteerism. They vary greatly . I would love to see the worst shelters brought up to a better standard. My family's home state of Arkansas was listed as one of the worst states for animals last year and has risen quite a bit . It still obviously has a ways to go but it is encouraging to see that progress can be made.

This is only a starting point. All these shelters and rescues were self-referred to the list.

And there's a recipe for cat-poop cookies! Mmmmmm... Something to try when snowed in?
